“There is no god but He: That is the witness of Allah, His angels, and those endued with knowledge, standing firm on justice. There is no god but He, the Exalted in Power, the Wise”
Madrasah Jaafariyah is the only official Shi’ah Ithna ‘Ashari madrasah in Singapore. We operate on Saturdays from 3pm to 6pm at the AhlulBayt Educational & Cultural Centre (AECC). At present, we have 96 registered students ranging from 5-20 years old and 28 teaching, admin and support staff.
The younger students are taught the basic essentials of Fiqh/Aqaid, Tareekh, Akhlaq and Qur’an necessary for a complete understanding of the Shi’ah Ithna ‘Ashari Islamic faith. The more senior students – those who have attained adolescence or are near the young adult stage – are given a more open, contemporary and independent syllabus to assist them in adopting and applying their beliefs and practices in the modern context of a largely secular society.
Our Origins & Background
We first started out as two separate madrasahs- Madrasah Az-Zahra and Jaafari Madressah catering to the Singaporean Malay Shias and the expats – mainly Urdu-speaking background, respectively. We operated separately on different days at the old Imam Bargha and later on at the Hussainiyah Az-Zahra.
With the opening of the new and bigger centre, the AhlulBayt Educational and Cultural Centre (AECC), the Principals of the two madrasahs saw the opportunity to move in as one entity. Thereafter, in November 2017, Madrasah Az-Zahra and Jaafari Madressah decided to bring the teachers and children together for our inaugural combined camp – Camp Mustafa and by January 2018, we had officially merged as one madrasah renamed Madrasah Jaafariyah.
Madrasah Jaafariyah strives to be an exemplary institution recognized for developing Muslim individuals who are motivated in the pursuit of knowledge, possess high ethical standards and moral values in accordance to the teachings of Ahlul Bayt (a.s), and are committed to work for the betterment of the ummah and humanity.
A Jaafarian is knowledge-seeking(‘Ilm), God-conscious (Taqwa) and people-centred (Ihsan).

At Madrasah Jaafariyah, we believe in taking our lessons beyond the textbook. We kick off our year annually with a Unit of Inquiry which is a 3-4 week in-depth exploration of a concept. Students will inquire into a central idea or a main understanding by being guided by lines of inquiry and teacher questions. At present, our students have explored topics such as Sahabah of Rasulullah, Qur’an & Science and Nahjul Balagha.
Madrasah Jaafariyah hosts camps at least once a year for our registered students. Our annual camps focus on acquainting our students with the beautiful personalities of the 14 Ma’sumeen and creating bonds among our students who are of different backgrounds, races and cultures.
