Our life on this earth has a specific purpose; it is not the result of nature’s accident, nor is it a punishment for eating the fruit of the forbidden tree. We are here according to God’s plan: the wordly life is a test; it is a chance to prove ourselves as deserving of the eternal blissful life in the hereafter. God did not create us just for few years of this life. To be created just for this world’s life would amount to a joke played by the Creator with the human species. Muhammad (s.a.w.), the Prophet of Islam, said,” You have not been created to perish; on the contrary, you have been created for eternal life.”
According to Islam, the final destination of mankind is the life hereafter. At the end of time, all human beings will be resurrected and will be held accountable for their wordly life. The life in hereafter will be an eternal life. However, whether it will be blissful or full of sorrow depends on how we spend our present life.
It was to help mankind in achieving this objective that God sent various prophets and messengers to guide them. Muhammad (s.a.w.) is the last prophet, and Islam is the final and complete version of God’s message.
Islam is a strictly monotheistic religion. It teaches that there is only one God who is the originator and creator of the universe. This is the foundation of Islam. In the Holy Qur’an, the last book of Divine Revelations, Allah swt states as follows:
[112] Say, He is Allah, the One. Allah is the All-embracing. He neither begat, nor was begotten, nor has He any equal.
[2:91] Never did Allah take to Himself a son, and never was there with him any (other) god– in that case would each god have certainly taken away what he created, and some of them would certainly have overpowered others; glory be to Allah above what they describe!
[2:132] And whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is Allah’s, and Allah is sufficient as a Protector.
[2:164] Say: What! shall I seek a Lord other than Allah? And He is the Lord of all things; and no soul earns (evil) but against itself, and no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another; then to your Lord is your return, so He will inform you of that in which you differed.
[2:255] Allah is He besides Whom there is no god, the Everliving, the Self-subsisting by Whom all subsist; slumber does not overtake Him nor sleep; whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His; who is he that can intercede with Him but by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot comprehend anything out of His knowledge except what He pleases, His knowledge extends over the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of them both tires Him not, and He is the Most High, the Great.
[2:257] Allah is the guardian of those who believe. He brings them out of the darkness into the light; and (as to) those who disbelieve, their guardians are Shaitans who take them out of the light into the darkness; they are the inmates of the fire, in it they shall abide.
[3:123] And Allah’s is the unseen in the heavens and the earth, and to Him is returned the whole of the affair; therefore serve Him and rely on Him, and your Lord is not heedless of what you do.
[7:65] He is the Living, there is no god but He, therefore call on Him, being sincere to Him in obedience; (all) praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds
